St. Gavrilia’s life reminds us that the icon of Christ is present within us–not just in our moments of joy and celebration, but in our times of suffering and sorrow. It is the icon not only of the victorious and risen Christ, but the Christ familiar with wounding and grief. Perhaps Mother Gavrilia knew that when we are at our most raw, we most need someone to recognize and affirm this icon within us, bringing its hidden treasure to the light.
In Axia’s mission to celebrate Orthodox women and create community in every way possible, we recognize that a holy space must exist for healing. Last week we told you about the Leadership Training part of our Strategic Plan. Another pillar will be a Healing Arm, which will include Trauma-Informed Spiritual Care services, providing women with support in dealing with the unique challenges we face within the Church.
This work of carrying one another’s sorrows and walking together towards greater life and wholeness is a sacred journey that we walk together. Our webinars, workshops, and in-person retreats are helping us learn how to better walk with you in our common journey toward Christ. Time and time again, we are astonished at the holy moments of healing and connection that emerge by simply gathering together.
As a testament to that effect, we’re thrilled to announce that the Axia pilgrims who traveled to Patmos with us and Poustinia this year have come together to donate towards our fundraiser in honor of St. Gavrilia!
We’re more than halfway to our fundraising goal! If you believe in the healing work that happens when Orthodox women come together, will you help us reach the finish line?
We’d love to tell you more! If you’d like to hear more about our strategic plan or to talk with a board member about Axia’s vision, please reach out to axiawomen@gmail.com.
